Coastal trips are some of the longer hires we arrange, and a few things are worth planning for ahead of time.
Distance and driving time
Nairobi to Mombasa is a full day's drive on the highway. If you're self-driving, plan for rest stops and avoid arriving after dark where possible. If that sounds like a lot, our chauffeur-driven option covers the long stretch for you.
Vehicle choice
For the highway itself, most vehicles handle it comfortably. If you're planning to explore beyond the main coastal towns — quieter beaches, inland routes — a higher-clearance vehicle gives you more flexibility.
Heat and air conditioning
Coastal humidity is a different climate from Nairobi. We double-check air conditioning performance on any vehicle heading to the coast as part of our pre-hire inspection.
Extended hire periods
Coastal trips often run a week or more. Let us know your full itinerary when booking — we can often offer a better daily rate for longer hires.
