Self-Drive vs Chauffeur-Driven Hire: Which Should You Choose?
Both options have their place. Here's how to decide which fits your trip.
One of the first questions we ask when someone gets in touch is whether they want to drive themselves or have a chauffeur. Neither option is "better" — it depends on the trip.
Self-drive makes sense when...
You know the route, you want the flexibility to stop where you like, or you're comfortable navigating Nairobi traffic and parking. It's usually the more cost-effective option for shorter, familiar trips.
Chauffeur-driven makes sense when...
You're unfamiliar with the roads, travelling for business and want to work en route, arriving from outside Kenya and would rather not adjust to local driving conditions immediately, or simply prefer not to deal with Nairobi traffic yourself. A chauffeur also takes the pressure off long upcountry drives, particularly at night.
A middle option
Some hirers choose chauffeur-driven for the trip out — especially on unfamiliar or long routes — and self-drive once they've settled in at their destination. Let us know if that's what you're after; we can usually accommodate it.
Whichever you choose, get in touch with your dates and route and we'll confirm what's available.
